5 Explosiones de un Ford Pinto
From September 17 to November 2, 2014. Sala gran. BCN Producció'14
One of the biggest failures in the history of design is the Ford Pinto, the first American compact car, hastily designed to counter the success of the Volkswagen Beetle. The engineers compressed the rear of the car to make it more like the Beetle and, as a result, decided to put the fuel tank under the rear bumper. This design error meant that the car exploded following a rear-end collision, frequently killing passengers instantly. 5 explosiones de un Ford Pinto (5 Ford Pinto Explosions) is an installation based on the history of the Ford Pinto that focuses on the perseverance and the patience involved in the creative act, a highly risky process full of good intentions but in which one mistake can lead to disaster.
