Family workshop: The Stone Monkey: Mixed Stories

This family workshop aims to create a shared moment based on Italian artist Carola Bonfili’s work The Stone Monkey. After a guided tour of the exhibition, children and parents will compose a new story inspired by the artist’s work using the Cadavre Exquis (exquisite corpse) method.

Children and parents will start by drawing the protagonist of their story and then work together to develop it in detail. Once this character is sketched, they will choose the person who will start writing the story. The family members then take turns to write on a sheet of paper, which is folded to conceal what they have written, and pass it on to create a narrative of any length and complexity. 

Once the story is finished, the families read it and begin to illustrate the elements that emerge from the story, using the same Cadavre Exquis method. New versions of The Stone Monkey’s experiences will be created through collaboration and shared family creativity.
