A Question of Paradigm. Genealogies of Emergence in Contemporary Art in Catalonia.
The exhibition entitled “A Question of Paradigm. Genealogies of Emergence in Contemporary Art in Catalonia” aims to show contemporary art as it is today in Catalan territory. To do that, the exhibition’s curator, Manuel Segade, has combed the Catalan scene – exhibitions, calls and various initiatives, both public and private – to establish a series of genealogies linking artists from different generations, which consequently mark out predetermined routes for emerging creators. With this objective in mind, various areas in the exhibition space have been set up to highlight the development of today’s Catalan art scene. These areas are determined by numerous factors that have articulated – and will continue to articulate – the Catalan art scene, such as the functioning of the system itself (exhibitions, calls, young curators, etc.) and the fundamental aspects that shape Catalan creation (production system, processes, narratives, publications, new initiatives, etc.).
This approach is conveyed through artworks, publications, documentary materials, explanatory texts in the various sections of the exhibition and concept maps, which will be alternated in the exhibition space to help establish genealogies that articulate the general discourse of emerging contemporary art in Catalonia.
