La Dècada Coagular. Performance by Marc O’Callaghan
On the Barcelona underground music scene, Marc O’Callaghan (Barcelona, 1988) is primarily known as Coàgul, one of his many projects that specialise in experimenting in sound and performing live. However, O’Callaghan’s practice encompasses a range of artistic media in a bid to find hidden symbolic associations between the various layers of the reality around him. In 2018, he founded Coagularium, a heterotopic space where he sets out his untranslatable universe. Due to a robbery that recently took place at Coagularium, O’Callaghan suffered the loss of much of Coàgul’s archive of music, which he had been working on since 2009. Among the stolen items were samples and analogue recordings that enabled him to perform his music live.
In an exercise of ritual dissection, O’Callaghan will use the Major Arcana Tarot cards to revisit and reformulate a decade of work in which he has explored the connections between magic and science, sex and spirituality, mass culture and subculture, often through industrial sounds and hypnotic rhythms. Taking the recent loss of his archive as his starting point, the artist proposes to coagulate a decade of sound, somatic and performative experimentation in situ. Various items that make up the coagulatory cabinet of curiosities will guide him and serve as a physical support: the ten Arcana Major Tarot cards O’Callaghan has designed, his collection of twelve bells, the 22 records released so far by Coàgul and 360 small prints of the zodiac.
