{ }, by Pep Vidal, is one of the projects selected for a solo exhibition in Espai Cub at La Capella within the framework of BCN Producció 2013.
Pep Vidal (Rubí, Catalonia, 1980) holds a BA in Mathematics and is pursuing a PhD in Physics. Based on his academic training, his research interest focuses on the complexity and sensitivity of systems and interactions. On the strength of his conviction that personal and life experience must be linked to creative processes, he has decided to address his artistic concerns based on an approach that is interwoven with science.
The goal of the project { } is to make nothingness and to isolate it forever. Through the appropriate technical procedures, he proposes building an ultra-vacuum capsule, a space in which atmospheric pressure is radically lower than normal, a system in which the possibilities of interaction with the outside world are limited as much as possible, even at the level of imperceptible, infinitesimal changes.
This real or scientific nothingness will reside in a cube one metre in height, width and depth, which will be installed right in the centre of Espai Cub. A nothingness-system in an exhibition space, a black hole in the middle of the city and the world, which steers clear of any kind of modification or conditioning by and to its surroundings.
