Tallar-se una ungla per netejar la merda de les altres
Tallar-se una ungla per netejar la merda de les altres (Cutting a Nail to Clean the Dirt from the Others), by Sergi Botella, is one of the projects selected for a solo exhibition in the Sala Gran at La Capella within the framework of BCN Producció 2013.
Sergi Botella’s work (Terrassa, Barcelona, 1976) relates his immediate surroundings and personal experiences to the fictitious, and endeavours to shape the relationships established or play with feelings through different situations between sender and receiver. Installations, actions and videos give material form to his proposal, which merges the private and the public in a line of reasoning that speculates between the trace of the private and the account of the general.
Tallar-se una ungla per netejar la merda de les altres is based on the concept of chain reaction to build seven blocks around the idea of sacrifice. By combining installation, performance, video, photography and audio, he proposes a journey through a range of biological, social, symbolic, psychological, affective and economic sacrifices, etc.
Specific examples taken from disparate environments or routines form a sequence of associations, whose appearance is free and arbitrary. Fashion, hygiene, leisure and work spaces, as well as human, animal or plant behaviour, highlight the phenomenon of sacrifice – and its many manifestations – as a possible universal pattern.
