CENTRE D'ART LA CAPELLA PRESENTS NEW PROGRAM
The course starts on September 28, 29 and 30 with the performances of Carolina Olivares, Eduard Escoffet and the pair formed by Carolina Campos and Màrcia Lança.
- This year, Barcelona Producció will bring together the work of Carmen de Ayora, Estel Boada, Carolina Campos, Ricardo Cárdenas, Jaume Clotet, Marta Echaves, Eduard Escoffet, Andrés Galeano, Iván Gómez, Núria Gómez Gabriel, Carolina Jiménez and Lorenzo Sandoval, Pau Magrané, Carolina Olivares, Diego Paonessa, Enrique Radigales, Mónica Rikić, Zaida Trallero and Julia Varela. The Center's proposal is completed by the Context Schools and the Concentric and Mediation programs.
- Context Schools is a training program to rethink the institutional model, and is made up of stable sub-programmes dedicated to textuality, voice, LGTBIQ+ culture, publications and institutional learning, with Alexandra Laudo, Marc Vives and Laia Estruch, Daniel Gasol, Enric Farrés Duran and Jara Rocha.
- The exhibition program will start on October 11 with the solo exhibitions of Diego Paonessa, in Espai Capella, and Jaume Clotet, in the Espai Rampa. The opening of this last space has made it possible to double the exhibition life of the equipment in relation to the latest calls for Barcelona Producció.
La Capella's new season vindicates its dedication to emerging art linked to the city of Barcelona by keeping Barcelona Producció at the center of its program, but bets on rethinking its function within the city's artistic ecosystem with the opening of three complementary programs that amplify the lines of work through the configuration of networks of complicity, training resources and educational proposals. Context Schools, Concèntric and Mediation are the three autonomous and complementary programs whose challenge is to promote a rich and plural reading of the artistic context of the city and the desire to connect with La Capella's less common audiences.
Thus, the 2022/2023 season will begin at the end of September with the performances of the last call for Barcelona Producció: La Mondonga, by Carolina Olivares (28.09, 8 p.m.); Utopia i esclavatge (Utopia and slavery), by Eduard Escoffet (29.09, 6, 7 and 8 p.m.), and It's just a day, by Carolina Campos and Márcia Lança (30.09, from 4 p.m. to 00 a.m.). The first exhibitions can be seen from October 11: Otra luz cegadora, by Diego Paonessa, at the Espai Capella, and New Ywork, by Jaume Clotet, at the Espai Rampa.
This year's edition of Barcelona Produccio includes as its main novelty the addition of a new exhibition space: the Espai Rampa, which will host three solo exhibitions and one curatorial project, doubling the exhibitions that can be seen in La Capella in relation to previous seasons. Thus, apart from the initial exhibitions by Diego Paonessa and Jaume Clotet, between January and June 2023 the solo exhibitions of Carmen de Ayora and Mònica Rikić will open in the Espai Capella, and of Julia Varela and Iván Gómez in the Espai Rampa. Finally, the curatorial projects of Núria Gómez Gabriel, at the Espai Capella, and of Zaida Trallero, at the Espai Rampa, will be presented.
Apart from the performances of Carolina Olivares, Eduard Escoffet and Carolina Campos and Màrcia Lança, the non-exhibition projects of the program will also be presented throughout the season: the publication of Pau Magrané; the two lines of research (Marta Echaves and the team formed by Carolina Jiménez and Lorenzo Sandoval); the two off-site projects (Ricardo Cárdenas and Estel Boada), and the two proposals for digital environments (Andrés Galeano and Enrique Radigales).
Regarding the selection of proposals, the jury made up of Pilar Cruz, Antònia Folguera, Daniel Gasol and Marc Vives, opted for a reading of the emergency that does not depend on questions of age, but on significant professional and life moments within the artist's career. Thus, the configuration of the 18 proposals draws an intergenerational list in which young profiles coexist with others more consolidated but with little presence in the city in recent years, or even older profiles that have not had a solid institutional support in previous moments of their trajectory. That all this can happen at La Capella gives meaning to the contextual work that the center carries out.
The set of programming explores themes focusing on the relationship between art and technology (Diego Paonessa, Mònica Rikić, Julia Varela, Andrés Galeano and Enrique Radigales); in matters of body and expanded performativity (Carolina Olivares, Carolina Campos and Màrcia Lança, Estel Boada and Jaume Clotet); in connections between visual arts and sound arts (Carolina Jiménez and Lorenzo Sandoval and Pau Magrané); in practices of political influence regarding subject, city or memory (Ricardo Cárdenas and Zaida Trallero), or in personal cosmogonies of a fabulous and ghostly nature (Carmen de Ayora and Núria Gómez Gabriel).
The latest innovation in relation to Barcelona Producció has to do with the type of accompaniment for the artists. Individual tutorials are replaced by a stable curatorial team that takes care of all the projects and people who are part of Barcelona Production, developing a collective and choral work process. The change in approach generates a curatorial and group vision of the contents, which is sensitive and porous to the ties, affinities and connections between proposals and people. All this favors a definition of Barcelona Production read from the shared experience and the notion of community.
Schools of context
Escoles de context (Schools of context) is a study program that emphasizes providing training resources, lines of research and meeting spaces available to the city's artistic community. Thus, the objective of "making context" through practice is reformulated as one of the backbones of La Capella, giving rise to a series of stable sub-programmes dedicated to the performativity of the voice, textuality, LGTBIQ+ culture, the notion of bookstore and institutional self-learning itself.
As a pilot test, Escoles de context begins its dynamics next October, rehearsing different temporalities, rhythms and intensities which, at the same time, bring to the table certain contextual attributes inherent in the emerging artistic practice in Barcelona, making possible also a review and constant crisis of the institutional model, both on an infrastructural and human scale, that defines La Capella. The study groups of the Context Schools are aimed at the same artistic scene, establishing proximity dynamics with small and regular groups that will only be open to the public when the situation requires it.

PUBLICATIONS - La Capella bookstore

La Capella bookstore is a research, production and collective learning project around the possibility of opening a bookstore at the La Capella Art Centre. The project is made from the context and for the context and is based on three premises: the artist book as a tool for the production, distribution and exchange of content, the local production of artist publications, and the ability to configure the editorial department of La Capella.
TEXTUALITY - Branch, root, sprout, stem

Branch, root, sprout, stem is a practical, theoretical and poetic program around the text, the word and the writing in the artistic practice and in its intersections with curation and literature. The program raises the possibility of thinking about a writing and a way of relating to the text and the word that is imbued by the seasonal changes, by the cycles of growth, death and rebirth that take place in nature. It wants to be a course that proposes forms of reading, textual production and orality that are not indifferent to the natural transformations of the sensible world.
VOICE - Voice School

The Voice School is conceived as a research laboratory for the phenomena related to the voice within Contemporary Art. The school wants to delve into the knowledge of the voice as a raw material, instrument, device and space for experimenting with artistic proposals that investigate the aerial conditions and emotional possibilities of the performative voice. The sessions alternate with local, Spanish and international guests who give theoretical research seminars, vocal training or laboratories based on their practical research.
LGTBIQ+ CULTURE- Transmaricabollo

Transmaricabollo (Transfaggot) aims to think about how LGTBIQ+ activism has been capitalized by liberal mercantilism in its eagerness to find new consumers and how hegemonic educational spaces establish distance from a social reality studied from ethnography and sociology. The school is formulated with non-teaching or academic people, creating a common and horizontal learning space, putting in crisis the synonym between right and need, the heterosexualization of the collective for its legitimacy, as well as legislative criminalization and social of dissident bodies and other non-normative realities.
INFRA-INTRA-INSTITUTIONAL LEARNING - Elephants in the room

The network of infrastructural dependencies where the day-to-day life of institutional structures takes place is also culture, and defines artistic practices. This school is conceived as a space-time in which to attend to the continuities and discontinuities, inheritances and prospects, latencies and powers that shape the technical, bureaucratic and semiotic-material context, and with which the art centers are constituted. In intra-institutional study sessions, conversing and documenting from close-readings of infrastructures, tools, protocols and gray literature, La Capella exposes itself to a process of knowledge of the environment in which the art center exists.
Concèntric
Following the simple metaphor of throwing a stone into water and focusing on the concentric rings that are born around the impact, the Concentric program attempts a collaborative and network work to pay special attention to the radii of action in which La Capella operates.
The first ring is the Raval, the second is Barcelona, the third is the Catalan territory, the fourth is the national level, and the last is the international one. However, and aware of our contextual condition, the strongest part of the program has to do with Barcelona.
In addition, Concèntric is defined by a special attention to the independent initiative, and proposes a reading of a Barcelona art center with a desire to welcome and amplify proposals that come from outside and need a reading of context. In this sense, La Capella opens lines of collaboration and complicity with independent proposals that find in the center a space of economic, logistical and human support.
During the 2022-2023 season, the Concèntric network counts, as stable collaborations, with Homesession, Graf, Bar Project, Hamaca, Duae Collective, Penedès Marítim Residency, Teatron, Espai Nyam Nyam, A*Desk, Panoràmic Festival, Transductores and the ARTefACTe performance festival.
Its program is based on presentations of artistic works, conferences, debate days and workshops that usually take place in the Espai Finestres, the small auditorium-relational space that La Capella has on the second floor of the center. In addition, Concèntric gives rise to short-term exhibition trials that are located in complementary spaces such as the Espai Vestíbul (right at the entrance to the center) or the Espai Oficina, the former La Capella office now converted into small exhibition room.
Mediation
Mediation is one of the challenges of La Capella's current model, and our will is to grow progressively, while demonstrating our own way of defining mediation from the center. Currently, we are still in a period of review, but with a series of programs and solid educational dynamics that allow us to draw a discursive and procedural basis.
The mediation program proposes a double objective. First, establish links with the educational community. Secondly, to promote relationships of complicity with our immediate environment: the Raval neighborhood.
In relation to the educational community, La Capella is part of the Apadrina program, where this year we have generated an increase in schools linked to the center. Currently, we work with five primary and secondary schools, and this generates a dynamic of shared work, with sessions at schools and institutes and sessions at La Capella.
For the first year, La Capella is part of the Espais C municipal project, an artist's coexistence experience in a primary school, while sharing artistic practice with the school's day-to-day life and rehearsing experimental educational models and flexible In our case, we are starting a collaboration with Escola Aldana. Mediator Judit López is in charge of the Apadrina and the Espai C project.
In addition, La Capella hosts educational city projects within its exhibition program, such as En Residencia or the Interfícies project of the Transductores mediation collective.
Finally, we have a program of guided visits to the exhibitions, this edition also with the artists, as well as workshops aimed at children and families.
As for the Raval neighborhood, La Capella maintains a relationship of complicity with Tot Raval, providing resources and establishing relationships with neighborhood associations. We also actively participate in particularly unique events in the neighborhood, such as the Raval(s) Festival that takes place in November. In this year's edition, La Capella organizes drawing workshops with the artist Tere Recarens.
