Polar Bonds with Tinta Fina
A proposal to partner anonymous lives through the collections of Barcelona’s public libraries
A polar bond is one in which we associate a specific book we have read with a unique memory, thereby becoming a point of reference for reliving or rereading it.
This workshop is a space to share this life moment we have associated with a book that we have read with other readers. In order to do so, we will construct a narrative object that can collect both the reference and the memory, subsequently serving as a whole to compile a library of polar bonds.
The workshop has been designed in two phases: in the first, participants will be asked to bring a book that has been relevant to them, or because what is written in it has at some point evoked a truly specific memory that they can and want to share with others. We will create illustrated devices of this experience from among the books chosen, thereby constructing a new ‘narrative object’.
The workshop is part of the Jardí interior (Indoor Garden) project that the artist is undertaking at the Joan Miró and Poble-sec – Francesc Boix libraries. It is set against the framework of the Ex-Libris project by Homesession and is organised in collaboration with Barcelona’s network of public libraries, as well as La Capella’s Concentric programme, which establishes like-minded relationships with similar artistic spaces and projects.
The artist Tinta Fina works by actively listening to others, and from this she extracts the scripts for her visual tales and illustrations. She formalises her proposals based on expanded comics, understanding these as visual reading devices that extend into space to encourage a shared experience.
