School of Elephants in the room (2d edition)

From 30 November 2023 to 18 July 2024

The network of infrastructural dependencies in which the day-to-day life of institutional structures takes place is also culture, and defines artistic practices. This school is conceived as a space-time in which to attend to the continuities and discontinuities, inheritances and prospects, latencies and powers that shape the technical, bureaucratic and semiotic-material context, and with which the art centers (and more broadly the institutions cultural) are constituted. In inter- and intra-institutional study sessions, conversing and documenting from close-readings of infrastructures, tools, protocols, literary fragments and "grey literature", La Capella invites other cultural and artistic institutions of the local context to the table of study and unlearning,  and in this way, it is exposed to a multilateral process of knowledge of the medium where art centres exist. Or to put it another way: this is a school where you attend to the elephants in the room, to be with them, through them, or in spite of them.

The group will be formed tactically, trying to include cultural workers from the context whose practices impact and are impacted by the infrastructural dependencies of the contemporary computational fabric. A certain commitment to stay during the course is required. Those interested send an email to: lacapella@bcn.cat

The frequency of meetings will be bimonthly (5 sessions in total, 3 hours each) the last Thursday of each month in alternating morning and afternoon hours to facilitate reconciliation with other tasks and responsibilities.

Sessions: Thursday 30 November, 10 am to 1 pm; Thursday 25 January, 4 pm to 7 pm; Thursday 21 March, 10 am to 1 pm; Thursday 23 May, 4 pm to 7 pm; Thursday 18 July, 10 am to 1 pm
