Signes de puntuació. Gràfica i il·lustració a l'Escola Massana

From July 12 to November 8, 2002

Ever since the early 1960s, the Escola Massana has gradually incorporated the disciplines of the world of design and visual communication into its tradition, which originally emerged from the arts and crafts.

Considerable effort needs to be made and many paths explored to ensure that creativity is successfully combined with the legal requirements of the education system and the ever-changing social, technological and professional dynamics.

Today, at a time of flux in the employment situation and the demand for training, as well as in the new legal framework, the Escola Massana is engaged in a process to redefine its syllabuses. The commitment to open up new areas of research and activity and to encourage reflection has prompted the school to exhibit recent works created in the field of visual communication.

The collection of work presented comes from all the courses and all levels and should be understood as isolated exercises that make sense only when seen as part of a complex and balanced syllabus. Only a few cases can be considered projects intended from the outset for public consumption.

A body of work that does fall into this category, however, is that co-ordinated by the Escola-Company Department, a key element in the relationship between the school and society and a veritable advance in incorporating students into professional life.

The Escola Massana views the tension between memory and change in a positive light and supports quality state education that seeks to achieve the creative and conscious training of the individual so that they can be equipped to play a full part in the world of work and given the skills required to adapt to the future changes they will unquestionably have to deal with.
