Workshop: Temps Present, with Valentina Alvarado Matos and Carlos Vásquez Méndez

Wednesday, 13 December de 2023 at 6pm

Memory can refer to the past, but it takes place in the present. It creates situations that activate memory as an event. In Temps present memory and image converge in a theoretical-practical session where through references and revisions of the work of Valentina, Carlos and others will deal with the presentization of history in the present of audiovisual language.

Both artists have been developing their research and practice with analog film, putting special interest in notions of registration, representation, identity, language and landscape, as well as in blurring the limits of creating films for the experience of watching them as a corseted discipline. The session is linked to the project the other here, selected for exhibition at La Capella in February 2024, which is articulated from personal memories marked by distance. Far from affective environments and formative landscapes, the other here seeks to inhabit new spaces and meanings arising from other traditions -those of here, the place of settlement, with discontinuous returns to origins. From this personal reflection, the project appeals to universal memory and its ductile quality, arising in the impossibility of its completeness, in what is missing: in a displaced but latent memory.

To whom it is addressed:

Anyone interested in cinematographic creation or reflection and other artists who use the audiovisual medium as a tool of expression. No previous knowledge is required.

The workshop is with previous inscription through the link.
