Workshop: Un canto de nácar (bis) [A Song for Nacre (Encore)], by Carlos Monleón

Wednesday 31 January 2024, at 6.30 pm

This session/workshop will explore what practices and sensibilities are required to develop in order to understand conversations between life forms that make up a river habitat.

It will examine concepts and metaphors of the human voice, as well as several principles of ecosemiotics to generate ways of giving voice to beings that lack audible vocalisations.

After a listening and ‘vociferating’ session, participants will then form a choir that gives voice to the diverse inhabitants of an aquatic ecosystem.

Carlos Monleón is the winner of the biannual Art and Technology grant awarded by Homesession, La Panera, University of Lleida and Etopia. Monleón works between various levels of bodily sensation and perception, ranging from the (micro)biological to the performative and social. His main line of work follows evolutionary mechanisms that originate in digestion and cognition, leading to the distribution of bodily processes in cybernetic metabolisms and multi-species networks.

In a predominantly collaborative manner, he has developed projects at Seventeen Gallery and Auto Italia in London, CA2M, LCE, Matadero in Madrid, and HIAP in Helsinki. His individual works have been exhibited at LUMA Arles, Z33 in Belgium, Tallinn Biennial and Istanbul Design Biennial, among others.

Collaborators: Fundación Daniel y Nina Carasso

This activity is part of Carlos Monleón’s immersive exhibition Respiración Fluvial (River Breathing), running at Homesession from 18 January to 3 February. Homesession proposes two participatory activities related to sustainability and our relationship with the environment, specifically with water (Carlos Monléon, 31 January) and earth (Anna Pasco Bolta, 6 February).

Limited capacity. If you want to participate, send us an email to lacapella@bcn.cat
